For the first time, MTV is expanding its Movie Awards to include television. They’ve just revealed the brand new list of categories for this year’s awards show, and despite the addition of multiple TV categories, Get Out still came out on top with six nominations.
Other movies and shows that are up for multiple categories are Game of Thrones and Donald Glover’s Atlanta, each with three nominations. Among the more hip hop related nominations are Netflix’s Luke Cage, which is up for two nominations. Snoop Dogg is also up for an award as a “Best Duo” with Martha Steward for their new show Martha and Snoop’s Potluck Party. One interesting twist this year is the removal of of gendered categories, so men and women will be competing for categories like “Best Hero” and “Best Villain.”
