In the wake of Mac Miller's tragic passing on Friday (September 7th), the tributes from fans and peers alike have continued to pour in. Notably, many awaited any statement or words of remeberance from singer Ariana Grande who dated Mac Miller for two years before the couple split up this year.
Soon after news broke of Miller's death, many fans stormed through Grande's social media accounts, asserting that she was to blame for his death and citing that her sudden engagement to actor and comedian Pete Davidson was to blame for Miller's spiral down into drug abuse in the last months of his life. It would prompt the singer to disable comments on her photos on Instagram.
Now, she's broken her silence (kind of). Taking to Instagram, Grande uploaded a black and white photo of the 26-year old without any accompanying caption.
Earlier in the year when Miller was charged with a DUI after driving his car into a pole, Grande was also the target of blame for his recent actions. However, she soon explained that Mac Miller's history of substance abuse dated further back than their relationship and noted that the rapper was still her "best friend,"citing the misogynistic elements attached to blaming her for Miller's shortcomings at the time.
“Of course I didn’t share how hard or scary it was while it was happening, but it was," she said. I will continue to pray from the bottom of my heart that
he figures it all out and that any woman in this position does as well.”
