Apple Music is introducing 116 new Top 100 charts on its platform, according to Rolling Stone. The update, which goes live Friday, will include 1 global chart as well as a Top 100 chart for each country in which the service is available. They will be visible under the browse tab and will appear much like a playlist on the platform does. They will be updated daily at 12 AM PST.
Recently, Apple Music has seen some unique streaming records set on their platform. Drake set thesingle day record for streams following the release of Scorpion in July, reaching 170 million in 24 hours. "The most streams in a single day, on any streaming service," Apple reported at the time. Earlier in the month, Drake became the first artist to hit 100 billion streams on the platform.
Earlier this year, Apple Music surpassed Spotify in paid U.S. subscribers. Per that report, both services have just over 20 million paid subscribers in the U.S., while Spotify pulls in more through its free subscription option, something Apple Music does not offer. In May, it was reported that Apple Music had a total of 50 million subscribers behind Spotify's 75 million. At that time it was said that Spotify was increasing at a monthly rate of 2%, while Apple's growth rate was 5%.
Though exclusive music releases have been phased out, artists including Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Travis Scott have their own radio shows available only through Apple Music.
