Colin Kaepernick may not play another down in the NFL, but that’s not stopping him from making his bread. On Tuesday, Page Six reported that the former 49ers QB-turned activist has inked a new book deal with Random House imprint One World worth around a million dollars. The news comes after Page Six’s Ian Mohr reported Colin was “taking meetings with publishers in the New York offices of WME.”
Details on the book deal remain scarce as an official announcement has yet to be made, but if you had to guess, the book is probably about Colin’s kneeling protest, racism, and other social injustices going on in America right now.
For those unaware, the company, One World, is headed by one of the few black editors in the publishing world Chris Jackson, who also published Jay-Z and Ta-Nehisi Coates’ books. He launched One World last year, and NY Times had the following to say about the company: "To the extent that 21st-century literary audiences have been introduced to the realities and absurdities born of the phenomenon of race in America, Jackson has done a disproportionate amount of that introducing.”
This isn’t the only time Kaepernick has made headlines in the recent weeks either though. Just a couple weeks ago, he filed an accusation of collusion against numerous NFL owners, accusing them of freezing him out of the league for political reasons. Last year, Kap opted out of his contract with the 49ers, expecting to land with any other team in the league, and with good reason. Nonetheless, the quarterback, who locked down 16 touchdowns and only four interceptions in 12 games, could not find a new spot with any team despite his agent having reached out to all 32 organizations to express his availability, and being obviously talented enough. So his last step is taking the NFL to court, which we’ll continue to update you on as information becomes available.
