A$AP Rocky is an emcee who isn’t particularly known for being outspoken about his political views or political issues in general. The only time he courted controversy in this regard was back in 2015, when he was criticized for avoiding talking about police brutality which, in the wake of what went down in Ferguson, MO, was being talked about in every corner of pop culture. His response to a question about this topic was lacking in at least a little bit of tact: “I don’t wanna talk about no f**king Ferguson and s**t because I don’t live over there. I live in f**king SoHo and Beverly Hills. I can’t relate.” he had said. With this in mind, it’s curious that he took time out of a recent concert to spread a anti-racism message to all those in attendance.

In a video from the show that has been making the rounds on social media this morning, Rocky is seen on stage, pressing pause on his set to speak his mind about the divisive attitude, especially where racially-charged protests are concerned, that is plaguing the United States as a country right now. “F**k racism n****!” he said with a flourish, much to the delight of those listening, who were hanging on every word. “I look around this s**t and it’s so f**king ethnic in the building right now, I’m loving this s**t,” he added, to a second round of massive cheers. The rapper wasn’t done there though – he promptly led the crowd in a boisterous chant of “f**k that s**t” in response to those who discriminate. It was a powerful moment from A$AP Rocky, who has made a point in the past of iterating that everyone’s life deserves to be accounted for in protest, not just those in the African-American community.

“I just get upset, and what I was really trying to say there was, like, yo, I just, I hate when the bandwagon stuff start,” he said in a 2016 interview with the crew over at The Breakfast Club, as per The Guardian. “I mean, how come, you know, black lives only matter when a police take ’em, when a police officer takes it? And it should be like, black lives, it should matter when a black life take it. You know what I mean? It should always matter. All lives matter!”
