AP headed to AZ.

Adrian Peterson's stint with the New Orleans Saints has come to an end just five weeks into the NFL season. According to multiple reports, the Saints have agreed to trade Adrian Peterson to the Arizona Cardinals for a conditional draft pick.

Peterson, who spent the first 10 seasons of his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings, signed with the Saints this offseason in hopes that he would be a focal point in Sean Payton's high powered offense.

After signing with the Saints back in April, Peterson told ESPN,

"On offense, it goes without saying that the Saints are really solid behind Drew Brees. I feel like my skill set can make them even more dominant as a unit. They have a great offensive line, which is something that stood out to me as well. I could tell from talking to head coach Sean Payton over the last two weeks that he did his due diligence in evaluating how I could contribute. I also did a lot of homework on the defense as well. While I know that injuries have played a role in performance, I also see areas of potential with a lot of younger guys having the ability to step up. Lastly, it goes without saying that the Saints have an amazing fan base and I look forward to making them proud and creating everlasting memories."

However, AP has managed just 81 yards on 27 carries thus far in a crowded New Orleans backfield that includes Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara. The Cardinals, on the other hand, have been without their Pro Bowl running back, David Johnson, since the season opener and have been forced to rely on a combination of Andre Ellington, Chris Johnson and Kerwynn Williams.

Peterson is expected to make his debuts with the Cardinals (2-3) in Arizona this Sunday as they play host to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Saints, coming off a bye in Week 5, will look to get above .500 in their matchup against the Lions in New Orleans.
