Tory Lanez's fans respond to his new definition of "broke."

Tory Lanez is a Canadian rapper who, among other things, has been known to speak his mind, especially when it comes to his interactions with fans on social media. He continued in that tradition earlier today, tweeting out a statement that had many people divided on what he was saying. The rapper attempted to attach a more truthful definition to the word "broke," and the results were polarizing to say the least.

His Twitter post from today (November 6th) reads as follows: "A broke n***a is a n***a wit no plan .. not a n***a with no money." Framing the issue of being broke as a problem of personal direction instead of one of financial aptitude certainly caught more than a few people off-guard, with several comments to the contrary showing up as replies to that tweet. Here's just a few examples:

Others, however, were willing to side with Lanez, stating that his redefinition of what being broke really is rang true on an emotional level. There was also the notion that, even if you find yourself in the situation of being broke, there's nothing that says you have to stay trapped there for the rest of your days. As a result, some optimism was able to shine through in the Twitter replies as well. Check some of the responses out below.

What the world is waiting for, more than Tory's deep dive into the semantics of what constitutes being broke, is for him to drop his much-anticipated album Memories Don't Die. With a delayed release date and question marks surrounding its overall content, it's safe to say that fans have been (im)patiently waiting for some new material from the R&B star. Check out our list of things we want to see on his new LP and watch our full-length interview with him below as well.
