Ray Allen is a basketball legend. After a stellar college career at UConn, Allen was picked fifth overall in the 1996 NBA Draft. His number was later retired by UConn. He spent his first seven years in Milwaukee before taking his services to Seattle. However, his Hall of Fame career is best known for his time in Boston between 2008 and 2012, where he won a championship. Traded to Miami in 2012, he won another ring in 2013 before retiring in 2014. Allen retired as a 10-time All-Star. Furthermore, he won a gold medal at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. Allen was a first-ballot Hall of Famer in 2018.
Before and after his retirement, he pursued a number of charitable endeavors. In 2021, he accepted a position at Gulliver Prep in Miami. As well as serving as director of girls and boys basketball, he would serve as head coach of the boys' varsity team. On that team was Allen's son, Ray Allen III. Now, the younger Allen is announcing his college intentions.
Ray Allen III Headed To Rhode Island
According to Rhode Island color analyst Chris DiSano, Ray Allen III is about to become a Ram. "Hearing Ray Allen III is expected to join @RhodyMBB as a preferred walk on in the fall. He and Dad were at a Ryan Center game back in February. Looking fwd to seeing him in Kingston," DiSano wrote on Twitter. Furthermore, there is a little more family history at play as well. Rhode Island assistant coach Duane Woodward faced off against the older Allen when he was at Boston College and Allen at UConn.
The Rams went 9-22 in the 2022-23 season under first-year head coach Archie Miller. Previously, Miller had led Dayton and Indiana. The last time the Rams reached a postseason tournament was in 2018, when they reached the second round of March Madness.
