Quentin Tarantino shared his thoughts about sex scenes in films in a recent interview.

Quentin Tarantino is a successful yet diverse filmmaker. For every piece of praise about his extensive catalog, there is an equal amount of criticism. Most of this revolves around excessive violence, exploitation films from a white male director, and the general portrayal of women in his movies. But if there's one thing Tarantino films don't have, it's sex. Sexuality, and sexual undertones maybe but rarely does Tarantino explicitly include sex or sex scenes.

The whole debate over sex scenes in cinema has seemingly hit a new peak in recent months. A conservative shift among younger demographics (labeled puriteens) and an expansion of film snobbery have seen countless viral tweets about how sex scenes are unnecessary in cinema and never add anything to the film. Some have gone so far as to claim that a sex scene violates their consent (this is wrong, that's what the MPAA rating system is for). However, Tarantino appears to agree to an extent.

Tarantino Says He Has Never Had A Need For A Sex Scene

Speaking with Spanish journalists, Tarantino addressed the question of why his films don't contain a lot of sex. “It’s true, sex is not part of my vision of cinema,” Tarantino said. “And the truth is that, in real life, it’s a pain to shoot sex scenes, everyone is very tense. And if it was already a bit problematic to do it before, now it is even more so. If there had ever been a sex scene that was essential to the story, I would have, but so far it hasn’t been necessary.” Tarantino has never shied away from sex, especially sexual violence, but the line for the director is clearly the presence of actual sexual activity on screen.

However, the veteran director's comments did not go over so smoothly on social media. Many people pointed out the director's fascination with feet, which many people label as a fetish. One notable example is an extended shot in Dusk Til Dawn where Salma Hayek has a man suck Tequila off her toes. Searching Tarantino on Twitter currently brings up posts entirely composed of feet shots from his films. Tarantino is currently working on his tenth feature film, The Film Critic.
