Russell Wilson has been getting a lot of criticism as of late.

Russell Wilson used to be one of the best quarterbacks in the entire NFL. However, over these past few years, he has not been as good as he used to be. Furthermore, there have been all sorts of reports about the preferential treatment he gets from management. We have also seen various former teammates of Wilson's come out and say that he doesn't like talking to his guys. This is certainly odd behavior from a quarterback and it is not conducive to a winning culture. Just ask the Denver Broncos who stunk this past season.

Now, a new report from The Athletic is suggesting that Wilson was actively trying to get his former head coach fired. No, we are not talking about Nathaniel Hackett. During his last season in Seattle, Wilson reportedly wanted Pete Carroll fired in favor of Sean Payton. However, the Seahawks organization made it clear that that wasn't going to happen. Instead, they kept Carroll and traded Wilson. In the end, the Seahawks won as they made the playoffs while the Broncos were embarrassed.

Russell Wilson Speaks

Subsequently, Wilson has responded to the report from The Athletic. As you can see in the tweet above, he is denying that this ever happened. Furthermore, Wilson was also complimentary of his former head coach. "I love Pete and he was a father figure to me and John believed in me and drafted me as well," Wilson said. "I never wanted them fired. All any of us wanted was to win. l’ll always have respect for them and love for Seattle." Of course, this could just be a statement to save face. However, for now, one must take Wilson's word at face value.

No matter what, this is a very bad look for Wilson. His reputation has taken a massive hit over the last few years, and it is going to take a while before it builds back up again. Whether or not Sean Payton can fix him, still remains to be seen. If one thing is for sure, however, Payton will hold him accountable.
