There's no shortage of talent at 300, though the label would do well to focus on Baltimore's Tate Kobang. April's Since We're Here stands as one of the best tapes of the year, and the Lord of da Trenches collection of freestyles he dropped later in the same month is also impressive. The King of Baltimore isn't a title he takes lightly, and he's been improving accordingly. He slowed down his output after his two tapes, his only official release being the Nitti Beatz-produced "Gucci Back" in May. He's now back with "Chirp Chirp," which finds him picking up where he left off, keeping an effortless flow throughout the track.
The raps are delivered in an off-the-cuff manner, though they are rarely without a sense of clarity that situates the listener in the booth alongside the highly motivated 24-year-old rapper. Tate freestyles his way into the hook, which could turn this one into a hit. Expect to hear "chirp chirp chirp" echoing out of the streets of Bmore before the year's through.
