54-year old Ronald Gasser released from police custody.

Yesterday afternoon former NFL running back Joe McKnight was shot and killed after an argument with another man in Terrytown, Louisiana.

According to the report, witnesses say McKnight was apologizing to a man following a traffic incident when the man pulled out a gun and shot him and then stood over him and screamed, "I told you not to fuck with me," before firing another shot.

"Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand, speaking to reporters at the scene, said the shooter, who he identified as Ronald Gasser, 54, stayed on the scene and turned his gun in to authorities. Gasser was in custody and was being questioned, the sheriff said. "

However, today TMZ is reporting that the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Dept. released Gasser from custody sometime last night after officials believed they had no reason to hold him any longer. Charges have not yet been filed because there are still "questions about the circumstances surrounding what led up to it."

The investigation is still open and could go to a grand jury or the district attorney who will decide whether or not charges should be filed.
