It's officially August, which means there's pretty much only one month of summer left. It's been a busy season for hip hop, as usual, with big projects from top-tier talents like Chance The Rapper, YG, ScHoolboy Q, and Gucci Mane dropping left and right, and plenty of additional tracks hitting the web as well. That being said, August is poised to be huge. We've got albums from PartyNextDoor, Travi$ Scott, French Montana, Rae Sremmurd, and possibly Frank Ocean to look forward to, and even a couple of new ones from DJ Khaled and Lil Uzi Vert to lead us into the new month.
As far as this week's top tracks go, Khaled is king, not quite getting to the top spot, but notching more appearances than anyone else. New tracks that barely missed out on spots on the list are Mac Miller and Anderson .Paak's "Dang!" (#11), Pusha T and Jeremih's "Paid (#12), Nas and Erykah Badu's "This Bitter Land" (#13), and The Game's "Get High" (#16).
10. Tyga - Trap Pussy
A marked change from his wave-hopping dancehall single "1 Of 1," Tyga's more rugged new track tops that previous track's lousy user rating of 46%, but at 54%, it's still the most-disliked track in our top ten this week. "Trap Pussy" debuts at #10.
9. Nipsey Hussle - I Don't Stress
Nip has been consistently hitting us with Marathon Mondays heat since April, and many of them have been strong enough to land in our top ten. "I Don't Stress" is the latest one, and it relies only on Nip's charisma, no big-name guests or producers, to carry it to paydirt. "I Don't Stress" debuts at #9.
8. Joe Budden - Just Because (Drake Diss)
Coming in close second to Tyga's "Trap Pussy" in the most-disliked category, Joe Budden's fourth (of 25?) Drake diss tracks currently sits at 57% approval. Is this one worse than the tracks that preceded it, or are people just getting tired of hearing Joe come after Drizzy? Whatever the case, "Just Because" rises up three spots from #11 to #8 in its second week out.
7. DJ Khaled Feat. J. Cole & EarthGang - Jermaine's Interlude
The first of three Khaled tracks to make the list, "Jermaine's Interlude" is also one of several on Major Key that sound decidedly out-of-character for Khaled. Nevertheless, Cole and ATL duo EarthGang (making their first appearance in our top ten) hold it down on this album highlight, which makes its debut at #7.
6. Chance The Rapper Feat. Big Sean, Jeremih & Smino - Living Single
A victim of a leak from an unknown source, this Midwest anthem sounds like it was planned for a spot on Sean Don's upcoming album. He expressed disdain on Twitter about the leak spoiling some surprise factor when the album does actually arrive, but when it does, hopefully we'll still see this great Midwest posse cut in the tracklist. "Living Single" drop three spots to land at #6 in its second week out.
5. French Montana Feat. Drake - No Shopping (Prod. By Murda Beatz)
Outside of this track, there doesn't seem to be too much hype building up for French's long-awaited MC4, which is crazy. It's arriving in under three weeks, so hopefully he'll drop another single before then to stir up the buzz. For now, "No Shopping" is doing a fine job of staying relevant, dropping four spots from last week but sticking it out at #5 on its third week out.
4. Tory Lanez - Flex
T Lanez's Fargo Friday drops have seemed more and more like locks to end up in our top tens this year, with the Toronto singer/rapper's profile seeming to rise even more after the success of "Say It." The latest, "Flex," is an ice-cold baller ballad that makes its debut at #4.
3. DJ Khaled Feat. Kendrick Lamar, Big Sean & Betty Wright - Holy Key (Prod. By Cool N Dre)
The second Khaled song on the list, "Holy Key," is one of many on the album that'd hold up well if you decided to play a game that involved drinking every time you hear the word "key" on Major Key. This track is also one of the best on the album, featuring major showings from all three of its vocalists. In its second week out, "Holy Key" rises from #6 to #3.
2. DJ Khaled Feat. Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Future, August Alsina, Jeremih & Rick Ross - Do You Mind
Another one. The most star-studded cut on an album full of them is Khaled's highest-charting song this week, his biggest since "For Free" took us by storm a little under two months ago. It's amazing that he can cram all six of these artists into one single track, but then again, that's always been his strength. "Do You Mind" debuts at #2.
1. Desiigner - Tiimmy Turner (Prod. By Mike Dean)
The most famous XXL Freshman freestyle of all time is now poised to eclipse Desiigner's "Panda" and render him something more than a one-hit wonder. "Tiimmy Turner" generated a whole lot of buzz when it came out, and unlike the Brooklyn rapper's recent mixtape New English, it seems to have staying power. This one moves up from #2 to #1 in its second week out.
