On September 7, up-and-coming Detroit rapper Dex Osama was shot and killed outside of a Crazy Horse strip club in Detroit. Two men have now been charged for his murder.
Detroit Free Press reports that Otis Davis, 46, and Dietrick Odums, 31, have been charged in the killing of Dex Osama, whose real name is Byron Cox. Davis is facing charges of "open murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, and felony firearm." Odums has been charged with "assault with intent to murder" as well as the same latter two firearm charges brought against Davis.
There has just been a preliminary hearing, the result of which will "determine whether the defendants proceed to trial on felony charges." Among those testifying in the hearing was Dex's girlfriend, Chantell Sturdivant, who was working at the Crazy Horse on the night of the shooting.
Sturdivant testified that when she first saw Dex she had been getting ready to dance for a man with whom the both of them were acquainted. She then walked up to Dex, who appeared angry and proceeded to pour champagne on her and told her to get dressed, which prompted Sturdivant to run to the back of the club. Soon after, while still in the dressing room, she heard a gunshot.
Detroit police have reported that an argument between two groups of men began inside the club and was taken outside, where Dex was shot at around 1:30 AM.
As reported, upon being shot, Dex ran to a nearby gas station, where he asked an attendant to call 911 before he collapsed. He was pronounced dead upon arriving at the hospital.
This summer, Dex appeared on a remix with Dej Loaf. He was said to be working on an EP, with features from Meek Mill, Shy Glizzy and Tracy T, as well as a mixtape produced by Metro Boomin. "Hoes," his collab with Shy Glizzy, was released shortly after his death.
