10 Essential MellowHigh Tracks

MellowHigh is an offshoot of the Odd Future group MellowHype. It gets a tad complicated, but stay with us now.

MellowHype = Hodgy Beats (rapper) + Left Brain (producer)

But when you add weedhead Domo Genesis in the mix, it becomes MellowHigh...usually. Sometimes they forgo the Left Brain production for someone else, too.

MellowHigh only has one self-titled album out and a few scattered tracks from features and mixtapes. However, the album is pretty sick, and if you're down with Odd Future's brand of crazy West Coast rap, you're sure to dig it. 

Some of it's hyphy, some of it's chill. It's pretty much all made for getting really, really stoned too. So keep that in mind while you click through the list.

MellowHigh is about getting high. On their single "Yu", the gang recalls Get Rich-era 50 Cent and make a dope song to twist one up to.

Remy Banks and Earl Sweatshirt assist our subjects in a trippy rap cut that has each MC bringing their finest bars to the table. Remy starts this thing on a (mellow)high note and it only gets higher from there.

So MellowHigh usually implies Left Brain produced the beat, but every so often Hodgy and Domo will release a track under the moniker with production from someone else. This one dropped on 4/20 a couple years back, and it's the perfect joint to spark one to. 

Odd Future are known for their experimental style, and "Air" falls under that category. It's a futuristic trap deformation that calls for the heaviest synths in the game. At first, it's a little suspect, but it ends up being a bangin' track. 

This beat sounds like something A$AP Rocky would want to spit on, but MellowHigh do just as good a job on that dreamy rap vibe. 

This beat just sounds like drugs, straight up.

The duo substitute Left Brain for some Lex Luger production on this one.

Domo and Hodgy invite fellow stoners Smoke DZA and Curren$y along for what was probably an epic studio session.

"Look" didn't make it on to the MellowHigh album, but it was released to hype the LP before it's release. Tyler and Earl do their thing over a bangin' beat, and MellowHigh keeps up with them no problem.
