Jeopardy host Alex Trebek has become a staple in many households over the years. Families across America have gathered around the television watching Jeopardy together. Unfortunately, Trebek shared some unfortunate news earlier today. He's been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
Alex Trebek announced his pancreatic cancer diagnosis on Jeopardy's YouTube page earlier today. Despite the low survival rate, he made an oath to defeat cancer against all odds. Trebek said that he wanted to deliver the news first hand in order to prevent any sort of inaccurate news reports regarding his health.
"Just like fifty thousand other people in the United States each year, this week, I was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer," he revealed. "Now, normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I'm going to fight this. And I'm going to keep working and with the love and support of my family and friends -- and with the help of your prayers also -- I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease."
Trebek's sense of humor and quick wit has been one of the reasons why so many have loved him as the host of Jeopardy. He made sure to sprinkle in a little bit of it during his announcement.
"Truth told, I have to [keep hosting] because under the terms of my contract, I have to host 'Jeopardy' for three more years," he joked. "So help me. Keep the faith, and we'll win. We'll get it done."
