UFC 235 took place this past Saturday with some exciting fights that included Jon Bones Jones successfully defending his light heavyweight title against Anthony Smith. One of the other big fights was in the welterweight division as Tyron Woodley was set to defend his title against Kamaru Usman. In the end, Usman dominated the fight and was able to make quick work of Woodley. The win made Usman the first African-born UFC Champion.
After the fight, Woodley spoke to TMZ Sports where he explained that the loss can be chalked up to just a bad night in the Octagon and that he had made some mistakes during training that he will learn from the next time around.
"You can't have a bad night in the Octagon," Woodley said. "Everybody knows that wasn't characteristic Tyron Woodley."
Woodley wants to have a rematch with Usman and is quite confident that he can come through and take his belt back. Although for now, Woodley will have to wait for that chance as it has already been announced that Usman will fight Colby Covington in his first ever title defense fight.
Saturday's loss was Woodley's first defeat since 2014 although he's not too worried about his confidence moving forward, saying: "If you can't take adversity, you're not really a champion."
