Season 3 is almost here.

HBO's True Detective dropped in 2014, and received rave reviews. The anthology crime drama focuses on a new cast each season. Season one starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, and received rave reviews and earned HBO several awards. A year later, the second season debuted with Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, and Vince Vaughn. It received much less praise, but was still heralded as one of HBO's best shows. After taking a three-year hiatus to work out issues behind the scenes, HBO is ready to deliver the third season of their critically acclaimed drama.

HBO released the first trailer for season three of True Detective this weekend, which will star Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali. In the haunting trailer, Ali's character, detective Wayne Hays, battles with a case that has been on his mind for years. The trailer shows Hays at several different ages, revealing that this season will hop throughout the detective's life to help bring light to the case in question. “My job, there’s no certainty. This peace is more haunting than anything. I want to know the whole story," states Ali in the voiceover as his character struggles to connect the dots. True Detective season three touches down in January 2019.
