Kevin Hart's decision to step down from the Oscars was met with a polarizing reaction. Many felt that he should've continued to host the Oscars while others believed that he shouldn't have been offered the position in the first place. Earlier today, he opened up to Ellen about the controversy surrounding it. Although he suggested that there was a possibility he'd reconsider hosting it again, he didn't have that same energy on a podcast he was on hours before.
Hours before stepping onto the Ellen Show, Kevin Hart got in-depth with Variety during a lengthy podcast where he discussed the possibilities of hosting the Oscars.
“Would I ever do it? No, it’s done. It’s done,” he said. “The moment came and it was a blessing and I was excited at the opportunity and I still am. In my mind I got the job, it was a dream job, and things came up that simply prohibited it from happening. But I don’t believe in going backwards.”
Hart caught flack initially for not apologizing, although he insisted that he's apologized in the past. However, he did issue an apology to everyone who was impacted by his comments.
“I stepped down because I’m not going to allow this to tarnish an amazing night for the other actors and actresses that are going to be on stage that night,” Hart said. “It shouldn’t be about Kevin Hart and his tweets of old. And I’ll state it again, to anybody I’ve hurt, I’m sorry.”
