The acclaimed actor gets candid about his personal woes.

Johnny Depp has experienced some romantic, professional and financial set-backs recently that have painted a particularly troubling portrait of the actor.

However, the Pirates of the Caribbean star sat down with Rolling Stone to speak candidly about his personal life like never before. Depp openly discussed his divorce with Amber Heard, and the physical abuse allegations that were raised in the aftermath of their very-public split. "I was as low as I believe I could have gotten. The next step was, ‘You’re going to arrive somewhere with your eyes open and you’re going to leave with your eyes closed. I couldn’t take the pain every day."

The couple married in 2015 after meeting on the set of The Rum Diary back in 2010. However, Heard and Depp divorced a year later, which inevitably resulted in the actor paying his former wife a $7 million settlement, which was donated to charity. Furthermore, Heard revoked her restraining order request against Depp, effectively squashing her claims of extensive physical misconduct on his behalf.

Elsewhere in the bombshell interview, Depp addresses his financial woes, admitting that the $650 million he made from his various hit films is almost all gone. Depp also reveals that it is "insulting to say I spent $30,000 on wine, because it was far more.”

The actor also notes how his son began to worry about all the negative press regarding his fiscal status. "My son had to hear about how his old man lost all his money from kids at school, that’s not right,” bemoans an emotional Depp.

As a method of dealing with his grief and sorrow, Depp began to write his personal memoirs on a typewriter. "I poured myself a vodka in the morning and started writing until the tears filled my eyes and I couldn’t see the pages anymore,” he said. “I kept trying to figure out what I’d done to deserve this. I tried being kind to everyone, helping everyone, being truthful to everyone… The truth is most important to me. And all of this still happened."
