The production is bringing a new vision to the hit tv series.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer was a popular supernatural drama adored mainly by teenagers at the time of its release. It ran for 7 seasons, between 1996 and 2003. The pop culture hit is set to be rebooted through a completely new series. The show's original producer, Joss Whedon, makes a return for the occasion to Fox 21 TV Studios, the cable/streaming division of 20th Century Fox. Shedon, who originally filled the role of showrunner, will act as the new installment's executive producer. Monica Owusu-Breen joins him as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner.

This version of the tale is said to be more modern in its approach in comparison to the original. The producers explained how they want the show to reflect our contemporary society: “Like our world, it will be richly diverse, and like the original, some aspects of the series could be seen as metaphors for issues facing us all today.” Still, the production will be strongly linked to the universe many fans have grown to love.

The casting for the lead role is also in line with this mindset. They are diverging from the original lead by strongly considering having a black main character. However, the script is not final. As such, the roles are not confirmed either.
