John Legend Joins "The Voice" Season 16 As A Coach

John Legend will be joining "The Voice" next spring.

John Legend will be making a prominent appearance on "The Voice" next fall, Hollywood Reporter reports. The singer has been recruited as a coach for the sixteenth season of the show which is set to air in spring 2019. Legend will be taking over Jennifer Hudson's coaching duties. Hudson will serve as a coach on the fifteenth season of the show which is expected to launch on September 24th. Legend will be joining Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson as well as Carson Daly on the show.

“I’m thrilled to join the coaches of ‘The Voice,’” He said about his coaching role on the show. “I’ve been a guest and mentor on the show multiple times and I’m so excited to discover talented singers and help them make the most of their gift. I hope the world is ready for #TeamJL.”

According to sources, Legend approached NBC about his interest of being on "The Voice."

"John Legend is a one-of-a-kind musician and producer with remarkable skills that are beyond measure," president of the alternative and reality group at NBC, Paul Telgdy said of Legend. "His multidimensional career and incredible talents provide a repertoire that will excite and inspire our artists. This coaching panel is sure to ignite season 16."

The news comes shortly after Legend won an Emmy for his role as a producer on "Jesus Christ Superstar." Legend's win helped him reach the elite EGOT status for winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and a Tony. Clearly, he's a good fit for "The Voice."
