Philadelphia 76ers legend Allen Iverson has high hopes for this young Sixers squad and he believes they're capable of winning right now.
Prior to yesterday's series-clinching victory over the Miami Heat, A.I joined Stephen A. Smith and Max Kellerman on ESPN's First Take, and told the hosts, "I think our time is now." When asked by Smith whether that means winning a championship, Iverson replied: "Definitely. Why not? Why not us? I think we got the talent, we got the coaching staff and we definitely, definitely got the fan support."
During his appearance on First Take, Iverson was also asked to name his Top-5 players in the NBA, which included Sixers' All-Star center Joel Embiid along with LeBron James, Kevin Durant, James Harden and Russell Westbrook.
“You gotta say James (Harden) because he’s the MVP at this point,” Iverson said, adding, “Russ averages a triple-double this year, man,” he said. “I don’t know what you want me to say when a guy averages a triple-double back-to-back.” Lastly, Iverson added, “I would say Embiid. It’s a legitimate argument,” Iverson says, noting that it “looks like he’s been playing a long time.”
Of course, A.I admitted that he's a little biased and guys like Anthony Davis are certainly in the conversation, but it's a legitimate argument to be had according to the Sixers' legend.
Embiid averaged 22.9 points, 11 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.8 blocks in 63 games during the regular season. In the first three playoff games of his career, "The Process" is averaging 18.7 points, 10.3 rebounds and 3 blocks.
