Most people know Afroman from his lighthearted and fun songs about smoking weed, like the classic "Because I Got High." However, Haley Byrd, who attended one of Afroman's performances back in 2015, is familiar with him for an entirely different reason.
At a performance in 2015, Afroman got into serious legal trouble after a video emerged of him punching Byrd mid-guitar solo after she crashed the stage. Afroman was arrested, and subsequently plead guilty to assault. He was granted a six month suspended jail sentence, which involved him attending anger management classes and being subjected to, tragically, drug tests.
However, that wasn't the only legal problem Afroman was facing. He was also facing a personal lawsuit from Byrd, who suffered a concussion from his punch. However, according to TMZ, the lawsuit will never see the courts, as they've reached an agreement on a personal settlement. The lawsuit, in which Afroman and Kress Live, the company that owns the venue where Afroman was performing, were named as defendants was supposed to begin on Tuesday.
His representatives previously made a statement as to Afroman's behavior onstage, saying that, "This was a completely involuntary reflex reaction to people infringing on his stage space. It was uncharacteristic behavior that was initiated by outside uncontrolled forces."
It's currently unknown how much the rapper settled for, but chances the "Because I Got High" royalty checks weren't enough to ask for millions. You can see the original footage of Afroman punching Byrd in the video below.
