Chance The Rapper will be continuing his never-ending quest to give back to the city of Chicago, this time by organizing a music festival for the 50th anniversary of the Special Olympics, honoring the athletes in Chicago who participated.
Chance took to Twitter today to announce the new project, which will be put into motion through Chance's production company, Social Function Productions.
"I’m happy to announce that my new production company SFP and I are producing the 50th anniversary of the Special Olympics here in Chicago," he wrote.
The lineup is pretty bare at the moment, though that's mainly because most of the headliners and supporting acts are currently not listed. The acts that are confirmed for the festival include Motown legend Smoky Robinson, pop-rock jammer Jason Mraz, and rock band O.A.R.
That's just the bottom line of the festival line up, so there are surely some bigger and more exciting acts planned for the event. Considering that he's the one producing the show, it would be bizarre for Chance to not take the stage, even though his name isn't written on the poster. There's always the possibility that there'll be two headliner quality sets, including Chance.
The event will take place July 21st of this year, at Northerly Island, Chicago.
This marks a very busy week of giving back to Chicago for chance. A few days ago, he was hosting his monthly open mic event for high school students, when suddenly Childish Gambino made a special appearance, much to the excitement of the kids.
