Which group are ya'll checking for?

Like most trailers, the XXL Freshman Cypher's first look gives a strong indication of what we might expect. Pairings are officially revealed, and seem to vary in prestige, as one might have expected. Kicking things off seem to be the trifecta of Lil Pump, Smokepurpp, and BlocBoy JB, who look more interested in popping the "Shoot dance" and flexing, though perhaps premature judgment is unwise. Given the fact that each rapper comes with a sample size of a singular line, the jury remains out. In fact, it actually sounds like Smokepurpp might be inclined to deliver, if his tone and cadence is any indication.

Next up is the group of Stefflon Don, YBN Nahmir, and Wifisfuneral. As XXL's first international Freshman, Stefflon Don appears to be set to make an impression, coming through with a slick double time flow. The vibe is echoed by Nahmir, who matches her energy with dexterous wordplay of his own. Wifisfuneral, who has been known to deliver quality lyricism, opts to slow things down; to be fair, however, this could be merely the onset of a new rhyme scheme. Only time will tell.

Personally, I'm most looking forward to Ski Mask The Slump God & J.I.D's cypher. IF the age-old "best for last adage" holds true, it would appear XXL recognizes the main event. It does raise eyebrows seeing Ski Mask go acapella, but hopefully it's only for a moment. As expected, J.I.D. seems to be taking the whole process seriously, using it as a platform to showcase his stellar lyrical ability. Strangely enough, Trippie Redd is nowhere to be seen, leading us to  believe he opted out of appearing in the first place.

Peep the trailer below, and stay tuned for the official cyphers to drop next week.
