Benedict Cumberbatch truly lives his roles.

There are plenty of stories of celebrities, or their security, beating people up for a myriad of different reasons, even something as seemingly harmless as trying to get an autograph. However, a rare instance of a celebrity fighting for good has emerged, and it comes from a surprising source.

Benedict Cumberbatch is a talented actor, but he isn't known as much of a fighter. Two of his most famous roles, Dr. Strange and Sherlock Holmes, find him solving problems through magic or cunning, respectively. However, Cumberbatch wasn't afraid to put the hands on some gang members when he saw someone getting attacked.

According to The Guardian, Cumberbatch was riding home in a cab with his wife, when he saw a Deliveroo bicyclist getting hit over the head with a bottle. That's when he sprung into action.

"Benedict was courageous, brave and selfless. If he hadn’t stepped in the cyclist could have been seriously injured," said Manuel Dias, the driver of the car. "Here was Sherlock Holmes fighting off four attackers just round the corner from Baker Street."

Apparently Cumberbatch knew exactly how to handle the situation.

"He stood there instructing them in the street, shouting, ‘Leave him alone.’ I had hold of one lad and Benedict another," said Dias. "He seemed to know exactly what he was doing. He was very brave. He did most of it, to be honest."

Cumberbatch doesn't seem to be making a big deal out of it, saying that, "I did it out of – well, I had to, you know."
