"Black Panther" and "A Wrinkle in Time" are going strong.

2018 has proven itself to be a great year for demonstrating the power of diversity. Black Panther rallied the world behind its celebration of Black excellence. Between its successes and the efforts to take kids to see Black heroes on-screen, it was a symbol for hope. Now, we're hearing of an accolade that has previously unheard of. With the debut of Ava DuVernay's A Wrinkle in Time, the box office was topped by two black directors with over $100 million budgets; the other being Black Panther's Ryan Coogler.

In its opening weekend, A Wrinkle in Time raked in over $33 million. Black Panther continues to go strong with $41 million. The latter just reached $1 billion dollars at the international box office. A Wrinkle in Time stars Reese Witherspoon, Oprah Winfrey, and Mindy Kaling; it's a female-driven movie.

The two directors are actually friends, and Coogler penned a letter to DuVernay to commemorate her latest film. For ESPN, he wrote, "Ava is a pioneer. She makes the most distant dreams and ideas a reality. She made a show called 'Queen Sugar' and mandated the use of female directors and key creatives a full two years before the great Frances McDormand shared with the world what an inclusion rider was. Ava is inclusion, equity and representation." The creatives are in their prime, creating lovable films for the masses. Their next projects will surely appeal to the fanbases they've respectively grown.
