A new saga has emerged in the tale of "Once Upon A Time In Shaolin," the Wu-Tang clan album that has become famous for the fact that there's only a single copy of the album in existence which, until recently, was in control of the widely-loathed pharmaceutical entrepreneur, Martin Shkreli.
But now the Wu-Tang Clan have bigger issues to worry about then trying to recover their album from Attorney General Jeff Sessions, as they've just been hit with an expensive lawsuit over the album's cover art.
According to a lawsuit obtained by The Blast, the Wu-Tang clan stole the cover art for the album from a photographer who was never paid for his work. The lawsuit states that the photographer spent 80 hours taking photographs of the silver case that contained the record. He was never informed that the pictures he was taking would be used as the cover to the album, and he wasn't under any sort of contract.
The photographer is seeking $1,000,000 in the lawsuit, and names RZA, GZA, Raekwon, U-God, Method Man, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, Masta Killa, Cappadonna, and Cilvaringz as defendants, as well as the auction house that inevitably sold the album to Shkreli.
The Blast reached out to Method Man representatives, who issued the statement that, "Method Man did not select nor authorize the photography used on the Wu-Tang album."
At this point it seems that the whole idea for this album may have been a little misguided. We'll have to wait and see how the Wu do in this lawsuit, or if we ever get to hear the album.
