A week away from Mother's Day, we've received some unfortunate news about the death of the mother of one of hip-hop's biggest stars. Afeni Shakur, mother to the legendary Tupac Shakur, passed away last night at 69 years old.
NY Daily News reports that Marin County deputies arrived at Shakur's home in Sausalito, California after she suffered a possible cardiac arrest-- she was taken to the hospital and passed away just before 10:30 PM.
The exact reason for her death is currently unknown, but the Marin County Sheriff's Coroner's Office will be leading an investigation.
Tupac famously dedicated a song to his mom, "Dear Mama," in which she will remain immortalized. Shakur managed the late rapper's estate since his death in 1996, which reportedly earns $900,000 a year.
