There are two studios making Marvel movies: Disney Studios and 20th Century Fox. While Disney has done an admirable job of creating a vast universe for the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy to battle in, Fox has done an equally good job by turning two R-rated superhero movies into box office successes in the form of Deadpool and Logan. Based on a Q&A with the producer behind those movies, there could be many more R-rated Marvel movies in the pipeline. The producer also teased some upcoming Marvel movies they’re working on.
While the studio doesn’t plan on only making R-rated superhero movies moving forward, we can expect the movies to be R-rated where it makes sense. Specifically, producer and writer Simon Kinberg says the upcoming Deadpool 2 that just got its first teaser will definitely be rated R, as well as the now-confirmed X-Force movie that will star Deadpool and Cable, which Kinberg described as having “an R-rated decibel.”
Kinberg also teases Channing Tatum’s role in the upcoming Gambit movie and the upcoming and still-mysterious New Mutants. Between all this and the upcoming Infinity Wars epic that will encompass both the Avenger and Guardians of the Galaxy rosters, Marvel fans have a lot to look forward to.
