Netflix has canceled The Get Down after one season, Variety reports.
According to Symphony Advanced Media, season one The Get Down attracted "roughly one fifth" of the viewership of season four of Orange is the New Black. The show cost $120 million to produce ($7.5 million per episode) and was fraught with production troubles.
In a lengthy statement posted to Facebook, director Baz Luhrmann wrote, "the simple truth is, I make movies. And the thing with movies is, that when you direct them, there can be nothing else in your life."
