Andre 3000 and Big Boi are reportedly working on solo albums which they will release prior to a new OutKast LP-- this according to Mr. DJ, a long-time OutKast producer.
The OutKast rumors are bountiful, and they aren't done just yet. It's quite possible we'll get a retraction of this tomorrow, but take it for what's it worth. Apparently the ATLiens are to release solo albums prior to releasing a reunion LP.
You're probably wary of this news by now, as Queen Latifah recently let it slide in a Howard Stern interview that the legendary rappers were hitting the studio again to work on new music-- and she then denied having said it. Nonetheless, now a different affiliate of OutKast, Mr. DJ, says they ARE working on new material at the Stankonia Studios, of course.
The duo's producer spoke to Revolt TV, and says that the Andre 3000 and Big Boi have been hitting the Stankonia Studio to lay down tracks for their respective solo efforts (we have seen possible evidence of this). Mr. DJ says that a lot of material has been recorded, and while he can't say for certain, he expects Three Stacks may drop a solo album this year. You'll recall there was a rumor last year that Andre would drop a solo LP this year, which Andre later denied.
Mr. DJ continued to tell Revolt that Big Boi is also a frequent visitor to the studio, putting down verses for his own album. The producer hypothesizes that the bigger picture will look something like this: OutKast head on their 40-date reunion tour, drop their solo projects, and then head back in the studio for a new album together. A festival run would definitely warm them up for all this, and get their creative juices flowing again.
"I get the feeling that the energy and camaraderie from the tour will bring everything full circle," DJ told Revolt. "We may make it back in for an album following that."
