Atlanta rapper slash singer Zaia has proven himself to be an interesting artist to watch. Upon recently release "Demons," it became clear that he possessed a strong sense of creative vision, one that automatically placed him on many-a-radar. Now, he's come through to follow-up his brooding melodic single with a full-fledged nine-track project, released on Sony Music and featuring a lone guest appearance from Chicago rapper Valee.
For the most part, the production seems to draw subtle influence from eighties and nineties music, a quality made evident on tracks like "Very Alone" and the bouncy "JUMO." The former might actually be a highlight, with a steady beat, driving bassline, and soothing guitar work; by the time Zaia slides through with some smooth vocals, the groove has already taken hold. At time, shades of Kid Cudi bleed into his delivery, and anybody who appreciates what Cudder brings to the table would do well to give this one a listen. Whether it's through lead single "DEMON" or one of the deeper cuts, there's plenty to enjoy on Zaia's new tape. What do you think?
