However, not all endeavors are destined for the win column. A brief foray into the restaurant game found T.I catching a rare L after his Scale 925 restaurant went under. Not only did the restaurant fail, but it also led to some legal inconveniences for the rapper. A while back, Tip was sued by ex-employees Avery Lee, Kyle Vargas, Khori Vargas and Shawn Yarborough, who claimed the rapper and his business partner Charles Hughes were withholding them of overtime pay and damages.
As per Bossip, the lawsuit states T.I. and Hughes violated the Fair Labor Standards Act, allegedly withholding overtime pay from the employees. According to Avery Lee, T.I. also retaliated against him when he complained about his lack of pay. T.I. seemed to feel he had done nothing of the sort, but seemed to suggest that the case would be difficult to prove on either side. Now, it would appear that the rapper has agreed to reach a settlement with his former staff. As a result, Lee will receive $8,500 in back pay and an additional $8,500 in damages, Kyle and Kori Vargas will receive $6000 apiece, and Yarborough will receive $2000.
In addition, Tip and Hughes will shell out $43,000 to cover the legal fees. In total, $39,000 came out of T.I's pocket, while the rest was covered by Hughes and Scale 925. While the case may be closed, the restaurant has led to a few more cases for the rapper to contend with.
