Ryan Trey dropped his debut project last month. August comes with 13 tracks of the teenager's reflective experiences. "Bound" is one of the project's songs that leverage the gangsta love vibe, which was a whole vibe during the early 2000's.

The artist reminds his listeners that being fly and the concept of having deep romantic feelings don't form a contradiction. Although this approach isn't inherently original, the theme does come with some freshness within the context of being placed in an era where a majority of popular songs harp on the "f*ck love" hype.

The sensitive mood doesn't come out of the blue, of course. The young rapper credits J. Cole and Drake as influences.

"Those are two artists that I'm inspired by. Also, those two rappers have changed the game like crazy. So, I think [there are] little elements I can take from them. I've learned from them. With those being like two greats, Drake and J. Cole helped enhance my sound, as an artist."

Quotable Lyrics

All this in a song, yeah, cause it's you girl
Love is real and you the living, walking proof girl
I think that my daughter gon' be perfect cause of you, girl
I don't care what I lost, cause I know what I got and that's you
