Great "Birthday" songs should the same ubiquity as "Happy Birthday." Every day is someone's birthday, which means everyday, somewhere, Jeremih's immortal "Birthday Sex" is ringing out. K. Michelle's new single "Birthday," set to appear on her upcoming album Kimberly: The People I Used To Know, has the potential to begin a similar tradition, and the club-set video further lays into the concept. "Birthday is just the fun song going out," Michelle told Billboard earlier this year. She also suggested that the single is not necessarily representative of what we'll hear on the rest of the album. "I can honestly say this is my best vocal album and you will get those in ballads like "Bring On Love" and "No Not You". That speaks to who I am and the person and the woman that I’ve become. So I just say it’s a little piece on this roller coaster journey that the album takes you in," she said.

Michelle's 2016 album More Issues Than Vogue was an eclectic collection of records that ranged from confessional piano ballads to country belters, and it sounds like Kimberly may have a similar range while digging deeper into the more intimate moments. The album arrives December 8th. Watch the "Happy Birthday" video above.
