Netflix is a force to be reckoned with.

It doesn't seem like it's only been five years since Netflix entered the original content game, but it has been. In 2013, the streaming service launched House of Cards, which was their debut original program. Netflix has come a long way since then though, as their number of original shows and movies sits somewhere in the hundreds at this point. This year, the Emmy nominations gave Netflix the upper hand with 112 nominations. In comparison, HBO was nominated 108 times.

Netflix and HBO battled it out all night to claim the throne for reigning entertainment provider. They ended up with a tie. The Netflix series The Crown grabbed 13 total nominations, Stranger Things received 12, Godless also got 12 nods, and comedy series GLOW garnered 10 nominations. HBO's top nominees included Game of Thrones, which earned 22 nods, Bill Hader’s dark comedy Barry scored 13 for its first season, and Last Week Tonight With John Oliver pulled in nine nods. At the end of the award weekend, bot HBO and Netflix left with 23 awards each.

As expected, Game of Thrones was the biggest winner of the night. After missing the Emmy run last year due to a delayed season, the hit show won best drama series, and also the best supporting actor in a drama for Peter Dinklage.
