Gina Rodriguez (L) and Tom Holland attend the 90th Annual Academy Awards at the Dolby Theatre on March 4, 2018 in Hollywood, California.

Netflix has found its star to play the beloved character.

Netflix has announced that Jane the Virgin and Annihilation star Gina Rodriguez, will be cast an upcoming live-action feature film of Carmen Sandiego, the iconic 90's globetrotter responsible for teaching millions of children about geography.

This isn't an entirely surprising move since, as reported by Deadline last April, Netflix had already announced plans for a Carmen Sandiego animated series starring Rodriguez, but this most recent announcement proves that Netflix is willing to go to the very limits with the rights to the character.

While there aren't any details yet as to a script or a director, we do know that Rodriguez's production company I Can and I Will Productions will be helping to co-produce the film. The movie will be a stand-alone Carmen feature, so you probably wont have to go through the source material in order to understand what's going on in the movie.

Carmen Sandiego is a major star in her own right, having starred in one of the longest-running video game series of all time, having sold over 5 million copies worldwide. Her several television shows have been nominated for 45 Daytime Emmy awards, and she's starred in books, board games, and more.

Since the has only just been announced, it's unlikely that we'll be seeing Carmen in her exploits for quite a while. Are you down to watch this film when it comes out, or is 90's nostalgia too overrated? Either way, we'll be searching the ends of the Earth for any exciting info about the upcoming movie.
