Unfortunately, no Fugees reunion to report.
Earlier Saturday [July 15] evening, veteran Hot 97 DJ Funkmaster Flex made sure to promote what he said was an exclusive premiere of a new record from rap group, The Fugees.
The group, composed of Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, and Pras Michel hasn't been an official group for over a decade now, and the anticipation of the new track raised speculation of a possible reunion for the group.
Sure enough, Flex delivered on a never-before heard track, appearing to confirm its status as a new track from The Fugees.
However, soon after, Ms. Lauryn Hill stepped onto social media to confirm that track was, in fact, an old track that was simply in the archives and appeared to be a leak.
"The 'new' Fugees song is indeed an old track played around with back in the day in the lab," she announced. "Not sure who leaked it, but I have my suspicions."
Well, so much for that dream.
In other news, Ms. Hill is expected embark on a joint North American tour with fellow emcee Nas in the fall. Take a listen to pretty low quality listen to the track via a rip of Funk Flex's broadcast.
