Americans really took to "Creed II" and "Ralph Breaks the Internet" this week.

Together, the Creed II and Ralph Breaks the Internet movie franchises helped the American Film Industry to new a personal best. Never before have Americans spent this much time and money in movie theatres during the Thanksgiving stretch, and it's all due to strong box office showings from those two movie franchises in particular.

At $85.6M, the second Ralph film holds the distinction of the 2nd highest grossing film to debut during the Thanksgiving stretch. The other films with historically strong Thanksgiving debuts happen to be animated films as well: Frozen ($93.5 million), Moana ($82 million), Toy Story 2 ($80.1 million) and Coco ($72.9 million). Although several million short of joining that lofty club, New Line Cinema's Creed II is projected to rake in $56.5 million, making it the highest grossing live-action film (ever) over the Thanksgiving stretch.

ComScore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian is the guru behind the analytical projections for both films. He saved his best diction for a glowing report published by Variety.

“A spectacularly crowded turkey day frame is off to an amazing start with an appetizing bounty of crowd-pleasing blockbusters and awards season contenders that have enthusiastic crowds flocking to the multiplex, with a new record for the five-day holiday period in the works in the wake of the biggest pre-Thanksgiving Wednesday that crossed $50 million for the first time,” he wrote.

Creed II and Ralph Breaks the Internet, both sequels, have successfully passed their predecessors on opening week.
