G-Eazy aka Young Gerald aka Gerald of Rivia has been having a bountiful run. Last December, the rapper dropped off his F. Scott Fitzgerald inspired album The Beautiful & Damned, which borrows a title from one of America's classic novels. With stacked features from A$AP Rocky, Cardi B, Kehlani, Halsey, and more, Gerald's project has helped establish him as one of hip-hop's more commercially viable, radio friendly artist. In fact, it's not uncommon for "Him And I" to play upward of seventeen times a day on any given pop channel. And that's not even counting the infectious sexually charged banger "No Limit."
Suffice it to say, a plaque seemed inevitable for the Oakland rapper. Evidently, the album recently hit a pivotal milestone; as of April 4th, 2018, The Beautiful & Damned is officially a gold record. It's a good look for G-Eazy, who will no doubt continue to rise in both status and sales. It's always interesting when an artist goes platinum in this new era, as the system is so drastically different; Cardi B's Invasion Of Privacy technically went gold in a day, off the strength of previously released singles alone.
As for the numbers, The Beautiful & Damned managed to sell a respectable 122,000 album-equivalent units in its first week, peaking at number three on the Billboard charts. As of now, it seems as if Platinum will be in reach for Young Gerald, provided he continues to release commercially viable singles. Congrats are in order.
