A Canadian legend has fallen, and Drake sends his R.I.P.

Drake pays tribute to another fellow Canadian musician, Gordon Downie, after The Tragically Hip singer passed away after battling brain cancer at the age of 53.

The "Hotline Bling" singer takes to Instagram posting a throwback post of when the two ran into each other at a Raptor's game. Drizzy captions the photo saying, "Rest In Peace legend 😓😢 so glad we got to meet and have this conversation. You will be forever treasured by this country and missed by the world 🇨🇦."

Gord discovered he had an aggressive form of brain cancer after a seizure in December 2015. His family revealed in an official statement that "he knew this was coming" adding, "his response was to spend this precious time as he always had – making music, making memories and expressing deep gratitude to his family and friends for a life well lived, often sealing it with a kiss… on the lips."

They further note: "Gordie said he had lived many lives. As a musician, he lived 'the life' for over 30 years, lucky to do most of it with his high school buddies. At home, he worked just as tirelessly at being a good father, son, brother, husband and friend. No one worked harder on every part of life than Gord. No one."

The Tragically Hip, also fronted by Rob Baker, Paul Langlois and Johnny Fay, are one of Canada's most popular groups. The rock band released 13 albums between the years of 1989 and 2016. Eight of their albums sold around 100,00 copies while three of them sold one million copies or more. The Hip, as they go by, have secured many notable honours such as 16 Juno awards, a Canadian Music Hall of Fame induction, an honorary fellowship with the Royal Conservatory of Music, a Governor General's Performing Arts Award and a star on Canada's Walk of Fame.
