Cowboys, Cardinals planning unity statement before Monday Night Football.

The Dallas Cowboys have reportedly planned a gesture of unity prior to tonight's game against the Arizona Cardinals at University of Phoenix Stadium.

Yesterday, teams across the NFL kneeled, locked arms with each other, or stayed in the locker room altogether during the national anthem as a show of unity in the wake of President Trump's comments regarding players who protest the anthem. Hundreds of players, coaches and even some executives and owners took part in the demonstration, and now the last two teams to play in Week 3 are the Cowboys and Cardinals.

It's unclear exactly what the Cowboys, or Cardinals for that matter, have planned but it's sure to get a lot of attention on the national stage as millions of football fans across the country tune in for the Monday Night game.

According to ESPN,

"Sources said the Cowboys leadership council, which includes more than a dozen players, met Sunday night and then the Cowboys met as a team. No general consensus was reached during those meetings as to what they should or should not do. The subject was brought up at the Sunday night team meeting with the coaches."

"Sources said players from both teams talked about joining arms together during the national anthem."

According to ESPN, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is expected to meet with the team before they take the field tonight, and he has been critical of anthem protests.

During an appearance on a Dallas sports radio show, 105.3 The Fan, last month, Jones said (per Ksat),

"I just feel so strongly that the act of recognizing the flag is a salute to our country and all of the people that have sacrificed so that we can have the liberties we have," Jones told hosts Shan and RJ. "I feel very strongly that everyone should save that moment for the recognition of the flag in a positive way, so I like the way the Cowboys do it."

Cowboys vs Cardinals is scheduled to kick off tonight at 8:30pm ET and can be watched on ESPN and the WatchESPN app.
