Busdriver makes a return with the abstract "Gush."

This is one for the underground hip-hop heads. Los Angeles emcee Busdriver, who has previously collaborated with Aesop Rock, Danny Brown, Open Mike Eagle, and Milo, has returned to the fold with "Gush." The track marks his first new single since 2016, when he dropped "BlondeCurd." As for a full length project, Busdriver hasn't delivered on that front since 2015's Thumbs. Still, a recent tweet from the rapper suggest big plans for the new year, writing a succinct yet effective "Im back."

And back he is, delivering the same dexterous and lyrically dense rhymes as ever. Over a lo-fi, carnival style beat, Busdriver leads the parade with abstract backpacker bars, spitting lines like "driver we need you, there's been a power outage at the barber's college, but no kink in my armor, guard the solace for your popcorn goddess." While you might need Aesop Rock himself to help decode the meaning behind Busdriver's lyrical content, it's still interesting to get a glimpse into his imaginative mind.

Quotable Lyrics

Driver we need you
There's been a power outage at the barber's college
But no kink in my armor, guard the solace for your popcorn goddess
