Gunna teams up with his mentor Young Thug on "Don't Play With It."

Atlanta's Gunna recently dropped his new EP Drip Or Drown, and while he primarily tackled the project all by his lonesome, he reached out to mentor Young Thug for the sole collaboration. As per usual, the Beautiful Thugger Girls melodic rapper leaves his notable fingerprints all over this track, kicking things off with his signature wavy flow. It does feel a little safer than Thug's more adventurous work, but the cadence of his voice blends nicely over the instrumental. As for Gunna, he certainly holds his own alongside Jeffery, and the pair trade seamless bars in a back-and-forth delivery. In fact, sometimes it's hard to tell where Gunna ends and Thug begins.

Lyrically, we're not exactly pushing any boundaries here. But if you're looking for something to vibe to, "Don't Play With It" is a pleasant melodic cut encapsulating the New Atlanta movement's dominant sound. It's a shame the engineering is a little questionable, as a more polished mix could really serve to elevate this one.
