Bucs vs. Dolphins Game Won't Be Played In Miami Due To Hurricane Irma

The NFL has announced that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs Miami Dolphins game scheduled for this Sunday won't be played at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami due to the potential threat of Hurricane Irma.

CNN reports that Irma is forecast to be a "potentially catastrophic" category 5 hurricane as it runs through the Caribbean and approaches Florida later this week. To put things in perspective, the storm is said to be stronger than Hurricanes Andrew and Katrina.

The NFL released the following statement regarding the Bucs vs Dolphins game.

"In the interest of public safety in light of the current state of emergency, the NFL, in consultation with state and local officials as well as both clubs, has decided that playing an NFL game in South Florida this week is not appropriate," the league said in a statement, per ESPN.

ESPN's Adam Schefter has mentioned that it is likely the game will be rescheduled for November 19th (Week 11) when both teams have a bye, although there's still an option to play the game Sunday at a neutral site. The NFL has not made a ruling on what to do but a decision is expected by tonight.

If the game is rescheduled for Week 11, both teams will be forced to play 16 straight games, including one in London for the Miami Dolphins.
