The also singer explains, "It only ever used to be [her] really being [her] own critic.” She continues, “This is the first time I’m putting stuff out there that I can connect with right now.” Smith additionally recalls "imagining hearing this walking into a party and seeing someone I’d had my eye on." The UK artist also calls the song "fun!” and "pretty self-explanatory."

Smith Explores Romance

The mesmerizing track is led by steady percussion and rhythmic bass, accompanied by Jorja Smith's characteristically soulful vocals. Directed by Bolade Banjo, the music video additionally depicts two partiers finding love on the dance floor.

"Try Me" was the UK soul artist's first release since her 2021 collaboration with DJ Guilty Beatz, "All of This." 2021 also saw the release of "Bussdown" with South London rapper Shaybo, as well as the May release of her EP Be Right Back. "All of This" followed her 2020 cover of St. Germain's "Rose Rouge," which saw Smith take on concepts surrounding the Black Lives Matter movement. In April of 2022, the Wallsall native joined forces with Ibeyi to release the song "Lavender & Red Roses." The single then landed on the Afro-French Cuban duo's May 2022 album, Spell 31.

Quotable Lyrics:

It's the little things that get me high
Won't you come with me and spend the night
Just a little thing for you and I
And if it's meant to be then that's alright
