Prince Harry says that he uses psychedelics.

Prince Harry recently revealed that he considers the recreational use of psychedelics a "fundamental" part of his life. Speaking with trauma expert Gabor Maté on Saturday, the Duke of Sussex explained how drugs have helped him deal with trauma in his life.

“It was the cleaning of the windscreen, the removal of life’s filters — these layers of filters — it removed it all for me and brought me a sense of relaxation, relief, comfort, a lightness that I managed to hold back for a period of time,” he shared during the discussion. “I started doing it recreationally and then started to realize how good it was for me,” Harry added. “I would say it is one of the fundamental parts of my life that changed me and helped me deal with the traumas and the pains of the past.” He also said, “They’re unlocking so much of what we’ve suppressed.”

Psychedelics aren't the only drugs that Harry has admitted to taking. During his book, Spare, he also recalled doing cocaine and marijuana as a teenager. “I’d been offered a line, and I’d done a few more since,” he wrote in the book, recalling a time he was first offered the drug “at someone’s country house, during a shooting weekend." He said it didn't “make [him] particularly happy.” It did, however, “make [him] feel different,” which he says was his “main goal.”

The comments come after Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, were the subject of jokes by Chris Rock during his Netflix special, Selective Outrage. For the event, Rock poked fun at Markle for accusing the royal family of racism. Meghan Markle’s longtime friend, Janina Gavankar, was reportedly in attendance at the live taping of the special. She sat backstage in the VIP Green Room, where Dave Chappelle was also watching on from.
