Listen to a song off Marvel's "Luke Cage" soundtrack.

The release of Marvel's Luke Cage reboot on Netflix is nigh. The score for the new series, which orbits around the adventures of the bulletproof black superhero, is handled by A Tribe Called Quest’s Ali Shaheed Muhammad and veteran producer Adrian Younge. Friday morning, the duo released a new song off the soundtrack called "Bulletproof Love" that features Method Man.

Method Man contextualizes Luke Cage within the current state of relations between police and the black community. Muhammad and Younge provide a backdrop of boom-bap drums with flute- and violin-driven cinematic flourishes, right in Meth's wheelhouse. Unlike many 45-year-old rappers, Method Man has not fallen off at all.

Quotable Lyrics

Man it is what it is
Can't understand a man if you ain't lived what he lived
Roaches in the crib, ain't got no food up in the fridge
Plus the crime running rampant and it's screwing up the kids
Sway I meant what kind of bad ice is this?
I just want my 40 acres and some gas on the wrist
All these snitches tryna gather in a pit
Where he get to cotton mouth, plucking ashes off the cliff
